10 public sector banks get new chief executives

The central government has appointed chief executives of 10 public sector banks (PSBs). They include Syndicate Bank, Andhra Bank, Maharashtra Bank, Indian Bank, United Bank of India, Allahabad Bank, Dena Bank, among others.
After approval from the Appointments committee of the cabinet, the department of personnel and training issued appointment notification on Wednesday evening, media reports said.
As per the notification, Padmaja Chundru has been appointed as MD and CEO of Indian Bank, Mrutyunjay Mahapatra as MD and CEO of Syndicate Bank, Pallav Mahapatra as MD and CEO of Central Bank of India. All the three are with the State Bank of India as Deputy MD and now have been promoted to head smaller public sector banks independently.
Moreover, J Packirisamy has been moved from the State Bank of India to Andhra Bank as MD and CEO, SS Mallikarjuna Rao has been moved from the executive director of Syndicate Bank to MD and CEO of Allahabad Bank, the reports said.
The State Bank of India’s deputy MD Karnam Sekar has been moved to the Dena Bank as MD and CEO. It may be noted that Dena Bank will be merged with the Bank of Baroda as pet the latest move announced by the Ministry of Finance as part of the restructure exercise undertaken by the government because smaller PSBs are plagued with higher non performing assests (NPAs), they added.
Executive Director of India Bank, AS Rajeev has been moved to the Bank of Maharashtra as MD and CEO. Similarly, Executive Director of Union Bank of India Atul Kumar Goel has been shifted to the UCO Bank as MD and CEO. S Hari Shanker, Executive Director of Allahabad Bank has been moved as MD and CEO of Punjab and Sind Bank.
Ashok Kumar Pradhan, executive director of United Bank of India, has been appointed in the same bank as MD and CEO, media reports said.
In addition, the government has also appointed members on the local board of southern, northern and eastern boards of the Reserve Bank of India. Rakesh Jain has been appointed on the southern local board of RBI, Revathy Iyer and Raghevendra Narayan Dubey on the northern local board of RBI and Prof Sachin Chaturvedi on the eastern local board of RBI.
