120 fasting people fell ill admitted to hospitals after eating food made of buckwheat, samak rice in Ambala & Yamunanagar

Ambala/ Yamunanagar: On the eve of  of ‘Navratri’ fasts going on these days, more than 120 fasting people fell sick were admitted to hospitals in Ambala and Yamunanagar due to food poisoning by adulterated food prepared from ‘kuttu’ flour. After eating food made of buckwheat and samak rice, people suffered from stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea and shivers. The food safety department has started an investigation and has collected five samples. Information reveals, the condition of 93 people deteriorated in Sadhaura town of Yamunanagar district, whereas 27 people are undergoing treatment in Ambala after their condition started worsening. According to sources, the blessing of ‘Navratri’ belonging to most of the fasting people have been discharged from the hospital after first aid and the treatment. Information also revealed that the people who fell ill in Yamunanagar are from Sadhaura and nearby villages.
The people who fell ill suffered from stomach ache, vomiting, diarrhea and shivers. Food safety department officials have collected five samples from grocery shops and the mill from where the flour was supplied. Currently 21 patients are admitted in the hospital, of these, eight are being treated at Sadhaura Community Health Center and 13 at a private hospital in Bilaspur. All the people who suffered food poisoning and fell ill had bought flour from different shops. Flour was supplied to these shops from Bhatia Chakki located in Khara Kuan Sadhaura. When the news of people falling ill spread, these shopkeepers closed their shops and managed to flee and many Grocery shops selling ‘kuttu’ flour remained closed on Monday as well. The Food Safety Officer arrived with the team to do sampling. He first reached Bhatia Chakki in Sadhaura. Since the front door was closed, the team entered through the back door. Two samples of flour were taken from there. He said that further action will be taken after receiving the report.
