16 doctors, 158 agents arrested in 54 prenatal sex examination by health dept

Information reveals, teams of Ambala health department during 54 raids including 12 international raids in past few years arrested 16 doctors, 158 agents and sealed as many as 26 ultrasound machines. Unfortunately, large number of female child are killed in mothers womb prior to their birth merely for a petty amount worth Rs 40 to 50 thousand by the owners of ultrasound centres or doctors quite often. Information also reveals, there are large numbers of agents in Haryana state working for ultrasound centres as well as nursing homes involved in illegal practices. State health department has detected large number of cases in past few years in which local agents are frequently availing such illegal services at ultrasound centres and nursing homes in neighbouring U.P, Punjab and Uttaranchal states.

A couple of days ago, on a information team of district health department Ambala arrested a agent Surinder Singh resident of Babain in Kurukshetra district prepared a pregnant woman which was deployed by district health department Ambala to detect the sex of unborn child in her womb. Agent Surinder Singh took her to a nursing home at Nagal in U.P on Saturday to find out the sex of unborn child she was carrying with the help of ultrasound machine when their vehicles was chased by the team of district health department Ambala comprising of PNDT Officer Dr Balwinder Kaur Deputy CMO Ambala, Dr Vijay Verma, Dr Sukgpreet and Dr Maneesh but they failed to follow the car in which agent Surinder Singh and pregnant woman were travelling in heavy traffic and stopped their vehicle at a police barrier on the road at Kalanaur in Yamunanagar district waiting for their return of vehicle. However, the team succeeded in arresting Surinder Singh while on way back after ultrasound test of pregnant woman and a case was registered against him by Kalanaur police station.

During preliminary investigation, Surinder Singh agent admitted took pregnant woman for pre-natal examination of sex of unborn child she was  carrying and an ultrasound test conducted on pregnant woman Somwal Clinic at Nagal confirmed that she was having a male child. He disclosed that the doctor conducted ultrasound test was working in a government hospital. Surinder Singh admitted that more than 40 pregnant women from Haryana have been brought by him in this clinic in past some time for ultrasound test as well as termination of pregnancy in case of female child in womb. During search police recovered Rs 22000 currency notes from Surinder Singh agent who told that doctors usually accept money in advance in his bank account. Dr Balwinder Kaur told that U.P government does not provide them any cooperation or police support as and when they conduct raids, which is a severe challenge to their security during such raids.
