4,47,018 cases under trial in Punjab and Haryana high court pending

According to information there are 4,47,018  cases which include 2,81,438 civil cases and 1,65,580 criminal cases  under trial in Punjab and Haryana high court Chandigarh lying pending due to acute shortage of judges in the court. Information also reveals that 12,887 cases are under trial in the court pending since past 20 to 30 years. A couple of days ago, as many as new judges were included in this court as such the total number of judges in Punjab and Haryana high court Chandigarh have reached 57 as against the requirement of total number of 85 judges first time so far and there is still shortage of 28  judges.

Information also reveals, there is possibility of joining another nine judges which include five judges from Punjab and four judges from Haryana enabling to bring relief to those awaiting justice since a long time. As regard number of pending cases dumped in Punjab and Haryana court awaiting decision there are 87,825 cases lying unsolved for decision pending since past 10 to 20 years. There are 21442 cases filed by females yet under trial in the court , besides another 24742 case filed by senior citizens have to wait for hours to attend hearing in the cases in court in their pending under trial cases. Information further reveals, according to available data out of total number of 4,47,018 pending cases under trial in Punjab and Haryana high court Chandigarh since past more than 20 years 14769 such pending cases have been decided in past one month.
