478 cases illicit liquor, drugs smuggling registered at Ambala in 6 months

Since past few years the cases of illicit liquor as well as drugs smuggling has witnessed fast increase in Ambala district known as ‘Gateway of Haryana’ turning as hub for smuggling and supply of illicit liquor, drugs and other intoxicated products including tablets, capsules and injections all over in the state. Residents of Ambala district hope relief in this regard due to appointment of a senior IPS officer Shrikant Jadhav in-charge Narcotics department Haryana based at Ambala, also holding the charge of Additional Director General Police Ambala division has already started action against smugglers, campaigns against drugs smuggling as well as drugs addiction fast increasing among male, female youths as well as residents of rural areas in the district.

 Information reveals, drugs is being smuggled from adjoining states Punjab, U.P, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi for onward supply all over in the state. State police record reveals that more than 478 illicit liquor and drugs smuggling cases were registered under NDPS act only at Ambala in past six months this year. Narcotics department Haryana has also released a mobile Toll No.7419112112 to give secret information as regard liquor and drugs smuggling and there is a prize scheme for those giving any information as regard smuggling. Information also reveals that increasing cases of illicit liquor smuggling, supply and drugs addiction among youths are being reported from rural areas at present. Liquor and drugs are being sold at ‘dhaba’, general merchant shops, chemist stores and door-to-door supply basis being smuggled in the state by truck drivers. Police along with Excise department staff also busted several gangs involved in manufacturing illicit liquor at Ambala in past about a year.

A survey by The Financial World team in all police stations in Ambala district reveals that more than 478 drugs smuggling cases were reported to the police stations in the district with effect from January 1, 2022 till date and was able to collect data for past four months from various police stations, which includes 199 cases were registered by the district police during month January 2022 in which 203 accused involved in smuggling were arrested. Police recovered 1250 bottle country made liquor, 1818 bottle English wine, 12 bottle beer, 12 kg poppy husk, 510 gm opium, 853 gm heroine, 104 intoxicated capsules and 144 intoxicated tablets.

During month February 2022, Ambala police registered 85 cases under NDPS act in which 100 persons were arrested which included 74 cases of smuggling illicit liquor in which 84 persons were arrested from whom 343 bottle country made liquor and 12058 bottle English wine. Out of total number of 85 cases registered during month February this year included 11 cases of drugs smuggling in which 16 persons were arrested from whom police recovered 580 gm opium, one quintal poppy husk, 2.46 kg ganja, over 322 gm heroine, 350 intoxicated injection,  and 2880 intoxicated capsules.

Similarly, during month March this year Ambala police registered as many as 50 cases under NDPS act and arrested 59 persons which included 43 cases of illicit liquor smuggling arresting 49 persons from whom 457 bottle illicit liquor were recovered. In seven cases of smuggling drugs in which 10 persons were arrested by police included over 4 kg opium, over 233 gm charas, and108 gm heroine. During month April 2022 Ambala police registered 33 cases of drugs and liquor smuggling which included 29 cases of liquor smuggling and remaining drugs smuggling in which police recovered 1063 bottle country made illicit liquor, 20 bottle English wine and 20 bottle beer, besides sufficient quantity of drugs.
