5200 bags of PDS rice hidden in mills recovered: raid by Food and Civil Supplies Department

Chandigarh : Food and Civil Supplies Department officials today conducted a raid and recovered 5200 bags of rice meant to be distributed under Public Distribution System (PDS).

Disclosing this Food and Civil Supplies Minister  Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that a team of the department conducted a raid at Vishnu Rice & General Mills Kurali in Kurali which is allotted to PUNSUP, from where 3000 bags are recovered  from godown .

He said that these sacks were hidden in the stock of paddy. Ashu said that besides this, a raid was also conducted at Kharar Rice Mill at Kharar which is allotted to Punjab State Warehousing Corporation from where 2200 bags of rice to be distributed under PDS were recovered.

The minister further said that these rice stocks were imported at a lower price from other states and were to be used for bogus billing during the current market season.

 

Mr Ashu ordered to initiate legal action against these mills. He also said that special efforts were being made by the Punjab government to eradicate bogus billing under which a joint campaign was being launched by the Punjab Mandi Board, Punjab Police and Food and Civil Supplies Department.
