Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain said on Tuesday that approximately 6,000 security personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty due to militancy-related incidents, with over 1,600 of them belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The disclosure was made during the closing ceremony of the 12th martyrs’ memorial cricket tournament in Kathua, where DGP Swain paid homage to the fallen heroes of the J&K Police by laying wreaths at the martyrs’ gallery. He commended the organizers and sponsors for successfully conducting the tournament and expressed gratitude to the people of Kathua for actively participating in honoring the martyrs.
DGP Swain emphasized the commitment of the J&K Police to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the country. He spoke about the sacrifices made by 6,000 bravehearts from various security forces, with a significant number hailing from the J&K Police alone.
During discussions with the media on the sidelines of the ceremony, DGP Swain highlighted the welfare schemes implemented for the families of J&K Police martyrs, which are financed through the Police Contributory Fund.
Additionally, Assistant Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain shared insights into the ‘Sevara’ scheme, through which the J&K Police actively engages with the families of martyrs to address their concerns and provide necessary support.
