700 cases of fake poisonous Sulphas tablets seized

Sonipat : The team of agriculture department led by Dr Pawan Sharma Deputy Director along with the police force from Kundli police station on a secret information raided a manufacturing unit in village Akbarpur Barota in Sonipat district manufacturing highly poisonous Sulphas tablets used to kill rats and worms while storage of agricultural products in the storage godowns. The factory owned by a person from Rohtak was found producing fake Sulphas tablets in the brand name of a reputed Gujarat based firm. The raiding team recovered 700 cases of  tablets and 150 cases of urea fertilizer in the factory, seized by the police. Dr Sharma said that nearly 50 persons were working in the factory during the raid, but failed to produce any document regarding the manufacturing license obtained from the government and bills for the purchase of raw material.

Investigation revealed, the illegal manufacturing unit owned by a person from Rohtak was functioning  since past about one and half month ago in a rented premises. He said that Sulphas tablets being highly poisonous were very harmful for the health of the labourers working in the factory and a large number of cases of suicide by taking Sulphas are frequently published in the newspapers. The raiding team also recovered a huge quantity of empty bottles, fake wrappers and packing machinery in the factory. The samples of the tablets seized by the raiding team were sent to the forensic laboratory for testing.  Meanwhile, the genuine manufacturer of the brand when contacted said that the wrappers used on the Sulphas tablet bottles as well as the quoted batch  numbers are fake. After sealing the factory, police started searching for the owner of the factory.
