Cancer care centre, govt medical college, domestic airport dream projects of Anil Vij

Over Rs 50 crore was spent on the construction of new building and hi-tech infrastructure of 115 years old civil hospital Ambala Cantt built during British era, Cabinet Minister for Health and Sports Haryana Anil Vij told The Financial World.

He said developing Cancer Care Centre, Government Medical College and Domestic Airport at Ambala are among my dream projects for the residents in 2019.

Vij said that a Cath Lab to treat heart patients was set up in the civil hospital Ambala Cantt in 2018 offering services to heart patients in the region at much subsidized rates.

He said a four storey building for proposed Cancer Care Centre the first in the state to provide chemical, radiography, surgical and mammography facilities on which amount worth Rs 56 crore  would be spent jointly by state-central government is under construction likely to start functioning by the middle 2019 to provide services to over 50 lakh people in the region at much subsidized rates. And free of cot to those below poverty line.

Vij said that cancer spreading fast and a cancer patient dies after every two hours in the state due to costly treatment.

According to district health department information, cancer is fast spreading in Ambala district and during the year 2018 nearly 200 cancer disease cases were identified and between 15 to 20 cases are reported every month in civil hospitals in which females are seen suffering from cancer breasts or genital organs and males generally suffer from gall bladder, lungs and throat cancer due o excessive use of tobacco and liquor.

According to ICMR report, Haryana state leads in cancer disease across the country registered 39.6% cases. If we look at past five years record in Haryana state 11776 cancer patients  were identified in the year 2014 with 2715 deaths due to this dreaded disease, 13697 cancer patients were identified in the year 2015 with 3317 deaths reported in the year.

A total of 16180 cancer cases were detected in the year 2016 in which 3668 cancer patients were died. In 2017 the number of cancer patients was recorded 19385 with 4592 deaths and during the year 2018 the state recorded 21885 cancer patients with 4285 deaths during the year.

Vij disclosed that a cancer hospital is being set up by AIIMS at Jhajjar, another cancer treatment hospital at Agroha Medical College and there is a proposal to open cancer care centres in every district in the state.

Vij said there is a proposal to open a Government Medical College at Ambala Cantt for which a committer comprising of members from health department, PWD and district administration have already selected a site in HUDA sector 33 and foundation stone for the same would be laid in the beginning of next financial year.

Vij disclosed that a project for developing domestic airport at Ambala in 2019 has been finalised by the state government for which survey for the land at village Dankor, Garnala and Barnala near Indian Air Force Station have been started, which would bring benefit to World famous scientific instrument industry Ambala Cantt, wholesale cloth market Ambala City and renowned pharmaceutical industry in twin city.

He told that this project was widely discussed in Vidhan Sabha and green signal was given by the state government. Vij told that a team of Airport Authority have already visited the town and state revenue department has been directed for a survey on this project similar to airports at Chandigarh and Srinagar in North.
