Jind is set to witness four corners contest in the ensuing Vidhan Sabha bi-election to be held on January 28, 2019 in which nearly 1.60 lakh voters of the constituency would decide the fate of four heavy weight political leaders from different political parties Krishan Midha son of former INLD MLA Hari Chand Midha winner on this seat twice now contesting polls on behalf of BJP this time.
Among other contestants in poll battle on this seat declared hot include heavy weight Congress leader Randeep Surjewala MLA Kaithal also AICC media convener won Vidhan Sabha polls in the state several time in past years, Umed Redhu a senior ‘Bangar’ leader in the area possessing strong hold among ‘Jaat’ voters contesting the polls on behalf of INLD and youth leader Digvijay Singh grandson of Om Parkash Chautala is contesting on behalf of newly launched Jan Nayak Janta Party (JNN) after separation from INLD is keen to open its account in INLD dominated Vidhan Sabha constituency Jind.
With the announcement of name of Heavy weight Congress leader Surjewala to contest Vidhan Sabha bi-election at Jind declared hot seat, the poll scenario has started warming up in the constituency.
On the basis of a survey severe rift between groups of senior Congress leaders in the state was harmful for Congress candidates to win present bi-election but Congress high command took a wise decision to contest non-controversial candidate Surjewala on this prestigious Vidhan Sabha seat and succeeded to bring all senior party leaders in Haryana state including former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, HPCC President Ashok Tanwar, former Union Minister Kumari Shelja Rajya Sabha member, former minister Capt Ajay Yadav and senior party leaders Kiran Choudhary and Kuldeep Bishnoi on a single stage on January 10, 2019 to submit Surjewala’s nomination papers at Jind all assured to support him whole heartedly showing that there is no political rivalry between Congress leaders, which made coming polls very interesting.
On the other hand, ‘Jaat’ community domination in the area hold the key in Jind Vidhan Sabha constituency also likely to support ‘Jaat’ candidate Surjewala contesting in this ‘Jaat’ belt.
According to political experts, Congress high command took a wise step for contesting non-controversial candidate Surjewala on this hot seat killing several opponents in the party in a single shot at Jind ‘Jaat’ land. A study reveals that Jind Vidhan sabha constituency have maximum number of ‘Jaat’, ‘Punjabi’, ‘Bania’ and ‘Dalit’ voters and past polls scenario reveals that after Haryana was born in the year 1966 non-jaat contestants have been winners in polls most of the time and out of 12 Vidhan Sabha polls held in Jind constituency ‘Bania’ contestants won polls six times, ‘Punjabi’ contestants won polls twice, backward class candidates won polls three times and ‘Jaat’ contestants were able to win polls only for a single time. Needless to say that BJP candidate would be benefited in coming Jind Vidhan Sabha bi-election due to BJP’s non-jaat policies and three ‘Jaat’ contestants would have to face BJP’s only non-jaat contestant Krishan Midha in this poll battle.
