Cabinet Health Minister Anil Vij has helped revive nearly 115 years old Ambala Cantt civil hospital constructed during British, which was reduced to skeleton. It was face-lifted at the cost of over Rs 50 crore by the state government.
The new building comrises hi-tech laboratories equipped with world class machinery, Cath Lab for the treatment of heart patients, A cancer treatment unit is under construction. The capacity of beds will increase from 100 beds at present to 200 beds, Anil Vij said, adding that the project has been approved by the government.
Sources said that this hospital was having between 200-250 OPD every day in 2015, which have been increased between 2000-2500 at present. Vij said that the state government is trying hard to increase the strength of doctors in the hospital feeling acute shortage to provide best health services to the people at par with PGI Rohtak and Chandigarh as such decision has been taken to open a Government Medical College in the town to meet shortage of doctors in future.
Vij said that there is a proposal to construct another building in the hospital campus required for additional 100 beds hospital likely to have soon. Information also reveals that the proposal to increase the capacity of beds from 200 to 300 in the civil hospital Ambala Cantt is yet hanging in files since past three years.
Vij also expressed happiness over Ambala to have country’s 22nd AIIMS for better health services for the residents in the area as announced in recent budget on February.
