SAIL posts 8 pc rise in total sales in FY’17

New Delhi: State-run SAIL has recorded an 8 per cent growth in total sales at 13.14 million tonnes in FY 2016-17.

“SAIL has recorded the best ever sales performance for any given year during Financial Year 2016-17 with a growth of 8 per cent over corresponding period last year (CPLY). The total sales stood at 13.143 million tonnes,” Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) said in a statement.

The company also recorded the best ever total sales figure for March 2017 at 1.575 MT, a rise of 21 per cent over the year ago, it said.

On the production front, the company has recorded a growth of 12 per cent in saleable steel production for 2016-17 over the preceding fiscal. “The techno-economic parameters showed improvement in financial year 2016-17 of three per cent in coke rate and six per cent in BF productivity over CPLY,” it said. The company’s increasing footprint in exports has also contributed to the best ever numbers with exports rising three-fold during the period, SAIL further said. “At the same time, the SAIL is readying to offer more value added products to cater to the growing needs of domestic steel market with a view towards more customised products,” it added. – PTI
