After Haryana state government declared epidemic outbreak in the state due to increasing corona virus cases in the country in past few days, the state government implementing notification issued by Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution on March 13, 2020 Haryana state government has also launched the same in the state and started taking stern action against black marketing on the sale of face masks and hand sanitizers n view of corona virus fast spreading in the country. According to notification issue by Haryana state government, traders involved in selling these products on higher rates would be liable for imprisonment up to seven years and fine till June 30, 2020.
Information reveals, District Food & Supply Controllers conducted raids at several chemist shops and wholesalers godown in the state and observed that the products are being sold at much higher prices. Deputy Chief Minister Haryana Dushyant Chautala himself keeping an eye over illegal activities in this regard with the help of Directorate Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and warned that action would be taken as per Essential Commodity Act-1955 against those involved in black marketing keeping an eye over production, quality, distribution system of manufacturers and said action would be taken against those manufacturing hand sanitizers without having approval from state drug department.
In order to stop black marketing of face masks and hand sanitizers, S. Singla of Himachal Pradesh Drugs Manufacturing Association said that there is possibility of these products to be brought under drugs status immediately as such the selling prices of face masks and hand sanitizers would be fixed by National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority (NTPA). Singla said that in view of corona virus cases in the country, an 100 ml hand sanitizer pack is being sold at the price ranging between Rs 200 to Rs 250 as against price around Rs 100 to Rs 125 and most of the manufacturers are producing hand sanitizers illegally without having approval from state drug department authority. He said, a three ply face mask is being sold at the price ranging between Rs 25 to Rs 50 instead of Rs 5 each and large numbers of traders as well as manufacturers have been trapped in the net during raids in past couple of days.
