Ambala (Satish Handa): On the direction of National Green Tribunal (NGT), municipal corporation has sent notices to nearly 150 private hospitals, nursing homes, , clinics and pathology centres allegedly not disposing of bio-medical waste properly and most of them throw hospital wastes in open on roads or drains, which is very harmful spreading pollution in environments. MCA has given three days time to take action in this regard and in case of violation warned stern action against them. According to Vikas Nodal officer NGT any private hospital having minimum 10 beds capacity is required to have a biomedical waste disposal arrangement.  He said that action is being taken against 32 private hospitals in twin city Ambala violating directions and throwing hospital wastes in open.

According to Dr D.S. Jaspal former Vice Chairman Indian Medical Association, for lifting bio-medical wastes a private firm Rudraksh providing services to hospitals, nursing homes and clinics charging Rs 1000 per month from small hospitals and Rs 1600 per month from big hospitals and nursing homes. According to information, 1-2 kg bio-medical waste is produced in a clinic daily, whereas 100-200 kg bio medical waste is produced in a 100 bed hospital every day, which includes 5-10% wastes very harmful causing dreaded infectious diseases like HIV, epidemic outbreak and Hepatitis.
