NEW DELHI: Pink city Jaipur has become the third destination in India for Scoot, the long-haul budget arm of Singapore Airlines, with its first flight landing at the Jaipur international airport.

Before its Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft landed at Jaipur airport, Scoot had launched its operations in India in May this year with flight services to Amritsar and Chennai with a Boeing 787 plane.

Scoot will fly to Jaipur three times a week, which will be increased to four from the month end, a release said. “We are excited to welcome an international airline like Scoot as it opens new avenues for the public in Jaipur to fly to popular destinations. This will go a long way in boosting trade and tourism for the city making it more prominent on the world map,” Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said. Scoot is the fourth airline from the island city-state to have established its presence in the world’s fastest growing aviation market, which has been logging over 20 per cent growth for around two years now. “The response from Chennai and Amritsar has been phenomenal so far and with the Jaipur launch, our spirits are soaring. We see India as a promising market. We are hopeful of a strong foothold in India with our exceptional offers and features like in-flight connectivity and in-seat power,” Scoot’s India head Bharath Mahadevan said. Besides parent Singapore Airlines (SIA), two of its subsidiaries — Tiger Air and Silk Air — also operate to India at present. SIA also holds 49 per cent stake in Indian full-service carrier Vistara, in which Tata Sons is the majority stake holder with 51 per cent.—PTI
