New Delhi—Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh took his unwavering solidarity towards farmers from online to the epicentre of the anti-farm bill sit-in –Singhu border. He addressed thousands of farmers on Saturday, hailing their determination as something that will go down in history in glowing terms.
Dosanjh’s vociferous support to the farmers on social media led to feisty exchange of tweets with actress Kangana Ranaut on Thursday where he tore into her for trying to discredit the farmers’ stir.
The singer whose name means one who wins hearts epitomised it when he took to the stage and applauded the farmers for pushing their cause ahead in face of police resistance and biting cold. “All that you are doing right now is monumental. It will be recounted in history as tales of valour. I bow my head to your courage…It is unprecedented,” he said. Dosanjh, who enjoys an enormous following across the world, also urged the Centre to fulfill farmers’ demands. “I request the Union government to accept their demands. They are pitching here peacefully and the entire nation is with them.”
Addressing mainly in Punjabi, he broke into Hindi to take a dig at national media as he asked them to not divert from the main issue of farm laws. Dosanjh’s visit came as a surprise to everyone including the Delhi Police who claimed to have no prior knowledge of the singer’s arrival, speculating that he reached the venue from Haryana border. He later joined other singers like Harf Cheema and Kanwar Grewal who have been participating in the sit-in at Singhu border since November 26.
