Former Union Minister and RLD Chief Chaudhary Ajit Singh dies during COVID-19 treatment

NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Chief Chaudhary Ajit Singh died on Thursday while undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a Gurugram hospital.

Ajit Singh, 82, was a popular farmers’ leader and the son of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.

His son Jayant Chaudhary confirmed on Twitter that Chaudhary Ajit Singh Singh passed away a few weeks after being diagnosed with COVID-19 on 20 April.

He twitted- “He battled his condition till the very end and breathed his last today morning.”

Ajit Singh, was a seven-time MP and Union Minister in the governments of VP Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.

He enjoyed an immense following in politically vital Uttar Pradesh, especially its western parts dominated by Jats.
