Rs 275 crore to be spent on ‘World Class” railway station at Chandigarh

Joint Managing Director Indian Station Development Authority Pranita Rai  confirmed approval of long awaited project for World class railway station similar to railway station at Heedalberg in Germany at Chandigarh to Gian Chand Gupta President of Haryana Vidhan Sabha on which amount worth Rs 275 crore will be spent by the railways. She told that green signal to start work will be given immediately after her visit to Chandigarh on June 23, 2021 when matter will be discussed in detail with N.P. Singh, Administrator Chandigarh and process for floating tenders for the work will start by Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) within two weeks and project will be completed within three years.

Gian Chand Gupta told that this project will be very beneficial for daily passengers travelling between Panchkula and Chandigarh.  According to project detail, this railway station will look like an airport having commercial developments of railway station spread across 28.7 acre (1,16,171 square meters) area comprising of several facilities including Mall, shopping complex, hospital, air conditioned waiting halls for travelling passengers, visitors arrived to leave and receive travelling passengers, food court, juice corner, coffee shop with facilities for solar conservation energy, water treatment plant and provision for charging electric vehicles at parking stand inside the railway station complex.

Preliminary information reveals that proposed railway station will be developed  in 25 lakh square meter area having 30 meters height  as per Chandigarh master plan having provision for construction of six plus one floor with provision for30% residential and remaining area to develop commercial area comprising of shopping centre, food court, school, hospital to be developed inside the railway station apart from capacity to accommodate nearly 90000 passengers having facility for stairs, escalators and lifts at several places to make project friendly for handicapped persons.
