Mumbai : BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye has urged the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to announce relief packages at the speed of light to the flood-affected victims in the State, instead of complaining about insufficient funds in the Government’s coffers to help the distressed, and then expediting the process of appointing a committee and standing guarantor to repay the loans of sugar co-operatives.
Describing the Maharashtra government as being +overly-concerned+ about industrialists, Upadhye criticised the Maha Vikas Aghadi government for being over-eager in setting up a high-level committee to recover defaulted loans — the gross value of which is approximately Rs 3,800 crores.
Criticising Uddhav Thackeray’s aerial visit to the flood-hit areas in Maharashtra, Upadhye told media here on July 26 that “on one hand, the government does not mind going out of the way to appease the defaulting sugar co-operatives; it is simply not concerned about lending any relief or financial support to the disaster affected commoners.”
Taking a dig at the government, Upadhye said that besides asking officials to prepare rehabilitation reports, the government must announce relief packages at the “speed of light” for the already-distressed, flood-affected people that the chief minister had visited in areas that included Chiplun in Konkan and earlier Taliye village in Raigad.
