District administration Ambala conducted 191 raids on receipt of satellite capture reports of burning crop wastes in open in the district and detected 82 cases of burning crop remains at the spot in a day or so imposing fine worth Rs 2.05 lakh on farmers violated directions not to burn crop waste in the field spreading smoke harmful for health of residents in the area. Information reveals, as a result of burning crop wastes in open Air Quality Index  (AQI) of area adversely affected in past one week identified as 190 on October 28, 254 on October 29, 231 on October 30, 246 on October 31, 241 on November 1 and 255 on November 3.

According to Dr Kuldeep Singh SMO Ambala AQI up to 50 leaves no ill effect on health, AQI between 51 to 100 is also not harmful for health, AQI between 101 and 200 will also be nor very harmful for health but AQI between 201 to 300 comes in the category of harmful for the health, AQI between 301`to 400 is very harmful for health and AQI above 401 comes in the category of  extremely harmful for health.
