In-spite of all efforts and strictness in Ambala central jail in which nearly 1500 prisoners undergoing sentence or under trial are presently lodged, which include those involved in murder cases, members of gangster groups allegedly running criminal network from inside the jail and several important persons and senior officers indulged in corrupt practices as such jail staff has not been able control illegal possession of mobile phones with prisoners running criminal network from jail. On the orders of Ambala Central jail superintendent Sanjeev Patter a search campaign was carried out in all the barracks of the jail from where mobile phones and other related items were recovered.
The Ambala Central Jail authorities continued search and recovered a total of eight mobile phones, including an Apple iPhone from barracks where a suspended HSC officer Anil Nagar, a VIP Subrat Khanna Managing Director of Naraingarh sugar mill, members of dreaded gangster gangs and other more than eight high-profile men are lodged found carrying mobile phones. While talking to media persons Patter a strict and disciplined officer said unauthorized facilities were being given to the high-profile men living in A-class and B-class barracks against the prison rules unlike in alphabetical order. He said, on October 17 these barracks were vacated and they were lodged in other barracks as per the rules and while checked such illegal mobile phones were recovered and surprisingly that an iPhone was being used inside the jail. Prior to this, jail security staff had recovered as many as nine mobile phones packed in a box lying near boundary wall in jail. Not only this, on getting information that a checking campaign has been launched in the jail by security staff prisoners burnt down or damaged 22 mobile phones themselves later found by jail security staff. Inspector Gaurav Punia, SHO Baldev Nagar police station Ambala City said the complaint was received, an FIR was lodged and investigation started.
Past scenario reveals, Ambala central jail has always remained on headlines in newspapers several time due to incidents witnessed inside this jail including frequent clashes between criminal groups inside jail, recovery of drugs from prisoners several times raising a question over how drugs reached inside the jail campus having tight security, suspecting involvement of jail staff in this regard. A couple of days ago on a information jail staff recovered three mobile phones from prisoners were members of Kala Rana, Kala Jathedi and Lawrence Bishnoi gangs and on the complaint of Superintendent Jail a case was registered against a prisoner Arjun alias Katora by Baldev Nagar police station Ambala City which started investigation about entry of mobile phones inside the jail. Information reveals that several hard core criminals are lodged in this jail found using mobile phones inside the jail which include names of few identified as Surya Partap Rana brother of gangster Kala Rana, Vikky Bagpat alias Vikas, Shubham alias Bigni, Yog Raj, Vijay, Ravi, Yogesh, Sagar and Arjun alias Katora involved in over 20 murder or attempt to murder cases registered against him.
After receiving continuous complaints of recovery of mobile phones in Central Jail, the superintendent of police Ambala, Jashandeep Singh Randhawa had formed a team led by DSP Ambala Cantonment Ram Kumar, comprising CIA-I, CIA-II, cyber cell police officers and ordered to conduct search operation at the jail for about four hours and during the search operation in the jail recovered eight mobiles and eight SIM cards from possessions of inmates and prisoners. Randhawa said a case was registered against accused inmates and prisoners at Baldev Nagar police station and further investigation will be conducted. He said, orders have been given to continue search operation in jail in coordination with jail administration to stop use of mobile phones, narcotics in jail premises. Information reveals, access to mobile phones inside jails has become a menace and the location of Ambala Central Jail allows criminals to throw communication gadgets in packets from outside via an adjoining road to jail wall. The Ambala administration is working out to shift Ambala jail to a new location. There have been cases in the past in Ambala when gangsters used mobile phones from inside the jail to commit criminal activities. In murder case of famous Punjabi singer, Sidhu Moosewala alias Shubhdeep Singh, the gangsters had access to mobile phones inside jails thus organizing to commit serious offences.
