Addressing a press conference here a team of doctors from Fortis Hospital Mohali comprising of Dr Nishit Sawal, Dr Anupam Jindal and Dr Abhishek Prasad told that treatment of Parkinson disease has been first time introduced in northern part of country in Haryana, Punjab and Himachal states via Deep Brain Stimulation and also produced a 64 years old patient from Kurukshetra district suffering from Parkinson’s disease  had been exhibiting symptoms such as trembling of hands, arms, head, difficulty in speaking, stiffness of limbs and impaired coordination who had become non-responsive  to medicines and his symptoms had been progressing severely impacting his health and daily life.

While addressing media Dr Jindal told that Deep Brain Stimulation involves implanting electrodes inside the brain to produce electrical impulses which helps treat affected cells and chemicals in the brain. He said, surgery helps improve  motor complications in patient with Parkinson’s disease and symptoms begin to subside and slowly life go back on track. Dr Sawal told that Deep Brain Stimulation improves motor complications in patients with this disease having symptoms such as trembling of hands, arms, head and difficulty in walking subside post-surgery. He told that the treatments costs Rs 5 lakh with the treatment by thread system whereas by inserting machines in brain it costs Rs 7 lakh besides other miscellaneous expenses.
