Former Deputy CM appears before Vigilance Bureau

Amritsar, November 29 – Former Deputy Chief Minister O.P. Soni here today appeared before the Vigilance Bureau (VB) where he was grilled for       nearly two hours as he had allegedly made disproportionate assets.

Earlier, Soni was summoned in a disproportionate asset case.

After coming out from the office of VB, Soni told the media, “The case against me was politically motivated and nothing else.   VB asked numerous questions and I answered all the queries one by one. They were asking me particularly about my property. I told them whatever property I have already mentioned in the Income Tax Return which I have been filing for the last many decades. Moreover, I have contested more than seven elections and in every election I have disclosed everything in an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission and I never hide anything”, he quipped adding that” he was always ready to  cooperate in the investigation being done by VB.

Vigilance SSP Varinder Singh Sandhu  said Soni was given  several types performas to give detail of his property he was possessing  and was given one week period to submit detail comprehensively.

Earlier, on November 25, Punjab Vigilance Bureau summoned former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni but failed to appear before the VB as he was out of station, cited the reason and sought time.

As per information, it was only after approval of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann that notice was sent to Soni.

Om Prakash Soni was also associated with the sanitizer scam in the previous Congress Government in Punjab. He was allegedly accused of buying sanitizer at thrice the cost during the pandemic while he was health minister.
