Sonepat: In the well-known case of gang rape and murder of Nirbhaya at Delhi a similar case of gang rape and murder was reported at Sonepat about five years ago in May 2017 when two youth identified as prime accuse Sumit and his friend Vikas abducted 19 years old girl (to be called as Nirbhaya of Panipat a resident of Kalupur Chungi area working in a pharmaceuticals manufacturing firm in industrial area. The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge RP Goyal sentenced two convicts to death. After sexually harassing a couple of days while she was on way to her work place a couple of times by Sumit resident of Kirti Nagar she slapped him on May 4, 2017 when after two days Sumit along with his friend Vikas Yadav a resident of Kabirpur beaten her while she was on way to factory along with one of her colleague on May 9, 2017and abducted her, took her to Rohtak where she was gang raped by both and brutally murdered in Rohtak when a complaint was lodged with police by her mother.
Urban Estate Rohtak Police Station recovered the dead body of the girl at a lonely place at Rohtak near Parshvanath City identified as a 19-year-old girl from Sonepat with blood oozing from different parts of her body. The head, mouth and different parts of body of the girl were found beaten by dogs and she was identified by the family from the clothes she was wearing. The girl’s mother accused Sumit of Kirti Nagar of kidnapping her daughter which was also supported by the friend with whom she was going to factory. The CIA team caught Sumit of Kirti Nagar also recovered from him a pistol. Local residents of Sonepat had protested over the incident when then Haryana DGP B.S. Sandhu had to visit Sonepat and then Sonepat SP Ashwani Salvin personally investigated and investigation in the case was handed over to Mukesh Jakhad DSP.
Post mortem report revealed that victim girl was given some poisonous substances after gang rape by both Sumit and Vikas both admitted that they had forcibly given the girl intoxicated substance before raping her. The body of victim was brutally handled while doing cruelty on her and the dead body was mutilated. Along with mutilation, stones, broken glasses of wine bottle and steel rods were inserted in the organs of deceased’s body. After arrest of Sumit, accused Vikas Yadav was also arrested. The court of Additional Session Judge RP Goyal framed charges on Sumit and Vikas Yadav on December 6.
After arrest of both accused during police remand they admitted that they had abducted the girl in a car took after covering her face with mask and went to Rohtak where she was gang-raped after feeding her some intoxicant and the girl was murdered after taking her to Parshwanath city. They also admitted that they committed brutality with dead body, along with this while doing cruelty to her, the dead body was mutilated. They said that along with mutilation, stones, glass and iron rods were inserted in the body. In final decision by the court ADJ RP Goyal awarded death sentence to both the convicts. The girl’s advocate Momin Malik said that in the case, testimony of 44 people including the victim’s parents, a co-worker going to the factory with her when she was forcibly abducted by accused in broad daylight has been made in the court when he had demanded severe punishment from the court in this case in which the court sentenced both to death.
