Railway police in Haryana arrested 33 drug smugglers in 2022

AMBALA: Teams of GRP and CIA staff of police arrested a drug smuggler   Pancham Yadav hailing from Jharkhand and a drug supplier Babu Khan a resident of Ambala district carrying 2 kg 700 gm opium at old reservation counter near Ambala Cantt railway station on Thursday and a case under NDPS Act was registered against both by GRP police station at the railway station. Both were produced in the court on Friday and remanded to police custody for eight days. Dheeraj Kumar DSP told that during remand police will try to find out the detail of drug smugglers and the customers to whom both were supplying drugs. He said, a police team along with drug smuggler youth Pancham is being sent to Jharkhand to find out the main supplier of drugs. He said, police will also try to arrest another local drug supplier who was to collect drugs from Pancham Yadav but didn’t arrive.

Meanwhile, SP Railways Haryana at Ambala Sangeeta Kalia told media persons that 33 drug smugglers were arrested by railway police so far during 2022 in as many as 30 cases registered under NDPS Act in which drugs of value worth crores of rupees was seized. She told that railways police had launched a drive against drug smuggling in trains to check luggage of suspected passengers as well as at railway platforms and nabbed several persons carrying drugs and illicit liquor usually by aged persons and drugs kept in Pizza Bags having printed names of renowned companies on it.

SP Railways disclosed that during this year railways police along with CIA staff has recovered nearly 102 kg poppy husk, 3 kg 678 gm opium, 540 gm charas, 5 mg smack, 41 kg 194 gm ganja, 3 kg 180 gm heroine and 3000 intoxicated capsules, besides huge stocks of illicit liquor so far during current year. She told that campaign against drug smuggling and illicit liquor in trains as well as at the railway platforms will continue since it has been observed that most of the drug smugglers carrying drugs travel in trains.
