Amritsar, December 28 – Amritsar Member Parliament Gurjit Singh Aujla in a letter written to Chief Minister Punjab has blamed the Punjab police in his district as well as administration for miserably failed to guard vicinity of Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib ) as prostitution and all kinds of ill doings allegedly continue to develop near the holiest of the Sikh Shrines.
Aujla said that in the latest viral video doing rounds on social media, a hotel agent is seen trying hard to ‘provide women’ to the man (a YouTuber) after he turns down his hotel booking offer. This video has spread wildly and has upset a lot of people on and off social media tarnishing the holy name of the city.
However, Police has arrested the hotel agent, staff members and owner of the hotel for their alleged illegal and illegitimate activities and produced them in the court today.
Aujla said that the accused hotel agent was arrested and police was performing the procedural duty.
However, prostitution, gambling, drug abuse in hotels couldn’t happen without the involvement of political junta and police personnel. It is not a hidden fact that a few police personnel and politically connected people are equally involved in this menace, as they are usually seen partying at these hotels and accepting goodies from such hotel owners, alleged Aujla.
Asking Bhagwant Mann, “After you assumed the office of Chief Minister not only me but the President of SGPC had also pointed out this issue in writing along with flourishing gambling/satta addas in slum areas, illicit liquor and narco trafficking mafias, heritage street encroachments etc., however due to some kind of the political and bureaucratic ill will no action was taken in this matter. These hotels have nurtured the growth of gangsters who use such hotels for gambling, drug abuse, and prostitution and for alluring youth into their nefarious cobweb”, he quipped.
“I request your good self to consider resolving issues of the holy city with religious fervour and constitute a team of handpicked police personnel to act as tourist police to gather intelligence and sanitize the holy city of such menaces. It has also been reported with certain hotellers and is that a high ranking police official is hand in glove with certain hoteliers and facilitating all the ills. A high power committee under sitting judge must be constituted to find and penalise such black sheep. Such acts in the vicinity of religious places usually do not go unnoticed by the religious bodies who in reaction act in their own ways to discipline the miscreants, causing issues for the state of law and order I hope the Chief Minister will act with the spirit of ‘sewa’ and save the sanctity of the holy cities, he urged.
