Amritsar, April 10 – The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has started pursuing the cases of youths who were arrested from Punjab and imprisoned in Dibrugarh, Assam in the recent past. In this regard, SGPC lawyers who reached Dibrugarh met eight youths in the jail on Monday, while the necessary documents regarding their cases have also been obtained from the jail administration.

SGPC member and senior advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka led a delegation which went to Assam including Advocate Mandeep Singh Sidhu and Advocate Rohit Sharma.

Sharing information to the media at the SGPC office, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that following the order of Jathedar, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the cases of youths imprisoned under the National Security Act (NSA) at Dibrugarh, are being pursued. He said that the legal experts of the SGPC have started their work after visiting the ground level. He informed that eight youths are detained at Dibrugarh, who are being provided legal aid. He further said that the legal team of SGPC has prepared for further action after meeting the arrested youths and the Dibrugarh jail administration.

Meanwhile, sharing information from Assam, Advocate Sialka said that eight youths in Dibrugarh jail are in high spirit. He said the District Legal Services Authority and Dibrugarh Bar Association along with local lawyers have supported the SGPC legal team in submitting an application to the Dibrugarh jail administration to meet the eight detained youths. Advocate Mandeep Singh said that the detention orders of the detained youths and other necessary documents have been provided to the SGPC legal team by jail administration, following which further legal proceedings will be continued.
