Accused Advocate demanded Rs. 20 Lakh to get compensation released of acquired land

Amritsar – Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday booked Gautam Majithia, Government Advocate of Improvement Trust, Amritsar for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 8 Lakh in lieu of getting the compensation released for acquiring 20 Bigha land.

Revealing the details here today in an official statement issued , an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused Advocate has been booked on the complaint of Jatinder Singh, a resident of Pratap Avenue, Amritsar.

He informed that Jatinder Singh had lodged a complaint on an Anti-corruption Portal on May 18, 2023 citing that Advocate Gautam Majithia had demanded a bribe of Rs. 20 Lakh to get released the additional compensation of the 20 Bigha land acquired by the Improvement Trust, Amritsar on March 25, 2022. A Court ordered to release a 20 per cent additional compensation for the said 20 Bigha land to the complainant Jatinder Singh, when the complainant approached the accused Advocate for the additional compensation. He demanded a bribe of Rs. 20 Lakh to get the compensation released, of which, he already took the amount of Rs 8 Lakh as a bribe.

The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a FIR no. 19 dated 04-07-2023 under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at Police Station VB, Amritsar Range and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the accused Advocate Gautam Majithia. Further investigations in this case are under progress, he added.
