Non-Sikh administrator of Board of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib not acceptable: Dhami

Amritsar, August 6 -The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has raised a objection to the appointment of a non-Sikh officer as an Administrator of Gurdwara Board of Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib, Nanded in Maharashtra and demanded the withdrawal of this decision of Maharashtra Government.

In a statement issued here today the SGPC President has registered his objection by writing a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Eknath Sambhaji Shinde.

SGPC President said that the appointment of a non-Sikh officer as the Administrator of Gurdwara Board, Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib, Nanded, is not in accordance with the Sikh sentiments and the Maryada (code of conduct). He said there is big resentment among the Sikh Sangat (community) against this decision of the Government of Maharashtra.

He said that the role of Takhts (seats of power) in the Sikh community is to lead and give instructions from time to time for the implementation of Sikh Maryada, therefore, any non-Sikh person cannot be accepted as the Administrator of the Management Board of the Takht. He raised the question that how can a non-Sikh person run the Management of Gurdwaras as per the Sikh sentiments.

The SGPC President said that this is an anti-Sikh decision, which should be withdrawn immediately.

He has demanded to conduct the elections for forming Gurdwara Board, Takht Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib, Nanded. He said that the tenure of the Gurdwara Board of Takht in Nanded was completed on March 15, 2022, and the election is due for more than one year.

Being the representative organisation of the Sikh community, the SGPC has raised demands several times to conduct elections of the Gurdwara Board of Takht in Nanded.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the Maharashtra Government should not take arbitrary decisions in the Sikh affairs and till the election, a committed Sikh person should be appointed as Administrator of Gurdwara Board of Takht in Nanded.
