Chandigarh : A two-day Exhibition-cum-Sale of articles prepared by the children residing in the Children Home, Snehalaya for Boys, Maloya, was held at Infosys, IT Park UT Chandigarh. The event took place from 22-23 August 2023 and was organized by the Department of Social Welfare, under the guidance of the Secretary Social Welfare and Director Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, as part the ARPAN Week observed by Infosys. The exhibition showcased various articles and items that were created by the children of Snehalaya for Boys. These included decoupage bottle art and lamps, Warli art on wood, candle stands adorned with stones, and Paper Mache Art. The children at Snehalaya for Boys receive regular vocational training courses within the home to ensure their effective rehabilitation during their stay. Through these courses, they learn skills such as painting, art & craft, and creating artwork from waste materials. The art pieces displayed during the ARPAN Week exhibition were all made using waste material, showcasing the children’s creativity and resourcefulness. The Exhibition-cum-Sale was organized part of the “Learn to Earn Program” initiated by the Department of Social Welfare. The aims to provide a platform for children to showcase their talent and creativity to the public, while also generating earnings for them. The ultimate goal is to boost their confidence, instill a sense of self-dependence, and develop resilience among the children. By organizing such events, the Department of Social Welfare not only supports the children in Snehalaya for Boys but also promotes their integration into society. The exhibition at Infosys, a renowned IT company, provided a valuable opportunity for the children to interact with professionals and showcase their artistic skills. It also helped raise awareness about the importance of supporting and empowering children in need.
