Four found dead after Pharmaceutical unit caught fire  in Amritsar

Amritsar : At least four people killed after a massive fire broke out inside the pharmaceutical factory located outskirt of Amritsar on Thursday night.

According to police, a major fire broke out inside the medicine manufacturing factory ‘Kwality Pharma’, at village Nag Kala area on Majitha Road located outskirt of the city.

Confirming the death toll, SHO Majitha Balwinder Singh said that fire was brought under control last night, thereafter four persons working in the factory who went inside and didn’t come back for long time, then another team was sent to locate them only to find them lying unconscious on the floor. On being sifted to hospital where they were declared dead after some. The dead were identified as female Rani (28) she was married, Sukhdeep Singh,Gurbhej Singh and Kulwinder Singh.

Inhabitants nearby came out of their houses when they saw high flames coming out of the factory. The smoke spread everywhere in the Nag Kala village in the area around the factory.

Atleast ten fire tenders engines were pressed into service to douse the fire flames. By the time flames were brought under control the factor unit was completely reduced to ashes, said police.

However, the “Kwality Pharma’ is one of the renowned export unit and internationally renowned.   It also manufactures. “Ramdesivir” an antiviral drug which remained in acute shortage in India against the very large number of Covid-19 patients during the year of 2021.  Hundred percent of manufacturing of “Ramdesivir” is exported as they don’t sell in India.
