Jamaat-e-Islami Hind welcomes India’s decision to vote in favor of UN resolution against Israeli settlements

New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has welcomed India voting in favor of UN resolution against Israeli settlements in Palestine. In a statement to the media the President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Syed Sadatullah Husaini said, “We welcome the decision by the Government of India to vote in favor of UN resolution against Israeli settlements in Palestine. This is a step in the right direction. By voting with 145 countries to condemn Israeli settlement activities in ‘Occupied Palestinian Territory’, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan – India has sent the right message that it is against the illegal grabbing of Palestinian land and the forcible annexation and eviction of civilians. India has always been an advocate of the Palestinian cause and has supported the Palestinians in their legitimate struggle against the illegal occupation of their land by the Israelis.”
The JIH President said, “We believe that supporting Palestine is in our national interest. The values and objectives for which we fought for freedom against the British are the same values and objectives that the people of Palestine are fighting for against the Israelis. Also, supporting the Palestinian cause offers India a golden opportunity to lead the Global South against imperialism and oppression. We were hugely disappointed last time when India abstained from voting on a draft resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian truce in the war on Palestine by Israel. This time, the government has taken a just stand on the issue and hence deserves appreciation.”
