Parliament Winter Session: Congress to seek discussion on unemployment, price rise and rich-poor gap

New Delhi: The Congress party will seek discussion on the prevailing issues like unemployment, rising prices, the widening gap between the rich and the poor in the country, border and foreign policy situation in the ongoing Winter Session of the parliament, which began today.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi, the AICC general secretary incharge of the Communications Department Jairam Ramesh said that the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party Ms Sonia Gandhi today chaired a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group, which was also attended by the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, to discuss the strategy for the Winter Session.

Besides, Jairam Ramesh added, since this is going to be the last substantive session ahead of the General Elections, the Congress party expects the government to discuss some issues of public concern like unemployment, rising prices, situation along the border and also the foreign policy. He also said that the Manipur situation was still cause of concern even after six months and the Prime Minister must break his silence. He said, this was not the demand of the Congress party alone, but all the INDIA parties.

Jairam Ramesh also announced that the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had called an informal meeting of the INDIA parties on December 6.

On the recently held Assembly elections, Ramesh said while the assembly election results were disappointing despite the victory in Telangana, but the Congress party was not dispirited or dejected. He said, no doubt the results were disappointing and much below the expectations of the party, but the party will continue to fight. He said the results have further strengthened the party’s resolve to fight. “We will fight with all earnestness, vigour and determination”, he remarked.

At the same time, he added, the results were being analysed and detailed discussion will be held.

Congress General Secretary said, while the Telangana government will be constituted and the oath taking ceremony will take place soon, in the rest of the states, the party will perform the role of a constructive and responsible opposition.
