Live-In Relationship is a disease for the society need a law against it: Chaudhary Dharmbir MP

Controversy has started over fast increasing cases of male and a femalesliving together for a long time without getting married in live in relationship. However,according to few people this is a personal matter of their fundamental rights living both together as per their desire, while majority of others feel the same linked to the deterioration of the social as well as the moral values of culture in the country. Such type of relationships without marriage are called live-in relationships and as such there is no law made in the country to ban these relationships so far. The incidents of such type of relationship among married and unmarried couples has witnessed fast rise in the country since past some time.

Recently, a BJP Member Parliament from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh in Haryana state, Chaudhary Dharambir Singh raised a question over it in the Lok Sabha and demanded the strict law against live-in relationships in the country causing break in the relationship of several married couples and should be treated as illegal and the violators should be severely punished as per law.The present scenario reveals that there have been many such observations of the Supreme Court and the High Court, in which live-in relationships were not considered wrong.

BJP MP Dharmbir Singh, in the Lok Sabha described live-in-relationships as extremely dangerous for the Indian society. He said that the area represented by him in the Lok Sabha is a pure Jat-Ahirwal belt where honor killings of turban are common not only in this area, but also in the entire Haryana state where couples doing love affairs or live in relationship most of the times had to face adverse decisions of the society in the form of death. He said, love marriages should be allowed only with the consent of the parents. Khap Panchayats have become aware and strongly opposed such evil practices of love marriage and live-in relationships in order to save Indian culture in the society. MP Dharambir said that the whole world admires our culture and unity in diversity and there has been a tradition of arranged marriages in Indian society for centuries, even today a large section of people (identified over 85%) in the country prefer marriages arranged by their parents or common family members. The bond of marriage is considered a sacred bond, which continues for seven generations.

MP Dharanbir Singh said that divorce cases increased rtend of love marriages and cases of live-in relationships. He said in the Lok Sabha with the figures that compared to 40 percent divorce cases in America, the rate in India is only 1.1 percent. He said, divorces are very rare in arranged marriages but now the cases of divorce have increased, but divorce cases related to love marriages are much more in them. Chaudhary Dharambir said the Central Government that there is an immediate need to make a law and to make the consent of the parents mandatory in love marriage cases, because in a large part of country, marriages within the same Gotra and in the same village do not take place, therefore there are a lot of clashes seen in villages due to love marriages and due to such clashes families get ruined, hence before having a love marriage it is important to give legal form to the opinion of both the families.

Referring to live-in relationship, MP Dharmbir Singh said that this is a new and dangerous disease spreading in Indian society. He said, recent cases of Shraddha Valkar and Aftab Poonawala reported in New Delhi some time ago, in which both were living in a live-in relationship. He said, rveryday  such type of  cases are often appearing on headlines in the newspapers  affecting the social fabric and our culture. He said, the time is not far off when our culture will collapse and there will be no difference between us and the people of western countries demanding the Central Government to frame a law against live-in relationships as soon as possible, so that this dangerous disease can be eliminated from tsociety.
