Services hit due to  ‘Patwaris’ strike in Haryana leaving  over 1,44,000  file pending

More than 1,44,000 files of different cases including property registration and 1678 files related to bal cases in the courts are held up due to present strike by ‘Patwaris’ and ‘Kanungo’  in Haryana state, which started from January 3 this year. The protesters are on strike to press state government for the fulfilment of their longstanding demands including revision of pay scales, recruitment on vacant posts and other issues as a result the registration of sale deeds and other revenue-related works in tehsil offices in the state remained hit causing heavy revenue loss to the government as well as people in the state are facing inconvenience due to the strike.
According to information the Revenue Patwar and Kanungo Association, Haryana had on January 3 announced suspension of work for three days and after a gap of two days over the weekend, it was extended to three days again after having no response from the state authorities for talks. The protestors said they are aware that the public have to face inconvenience due to this strike, but their demands are genuine too and government should look into it. Due to the strike services like issuance of domicile certificates, income and caste certificates, mutation, jama-bandi, intekaal and other works like Kisan credit cards, home loans, girdwari and others are being severely hit.

In a memorandum, state president of the association Jai Veer Chahal said, we have been struggling to get what we were promised by the chief minister last year. A revised pay of Rs 32,100 from 2016 was agreed upon, notification was released but an amended one issued later mentioned about the increase from 2023, which is a breach of promise. However, the Patwaris met the senior officials of the department a couple of times who agreed to the demand, but it was never fulfilled, said president of the association.

Information reveals that in as many as 14 districts in the state there are 1678 files of cases related to bale cases in courts held up due to the strike apart from thousands of cases of registration of properties. On the basis of information collected from few districts in the state there are 3000 property registration cases, 4500 Jamabandi cases, 3000 Intkal have been held up in Sirsa district. Similarly in Kaithal district nearly 1000 property cases and 200 bale cases have been affected. In the Jhajjar district government has suffered revenue loss worth Rs 2 crore in past eight days. In Karnal district 4041 property registration cases, in Yamunanagar district over 800 property registration cases have been reported held up caused not only heavy revenue loss to the government but also severe harassment tothe  public.
