Police firing at Gurdwara Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi : SGPC calls General House meeting on February 1

*Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s and police action will be made public at all levels:  Dhami

Amritsar, January 24 –  The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has called a special General House meeting on February 1 in view of the seriousness of the incident of police firing and violation of Maryada (conduct) at Gurdwara Sri Akal Bunga Sahib Chhauni Nihung Singhan at Sultanpur Lodhi. A decision in this regard was taken during a special meeting of office-bearers of the SGPC executive presided over by SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami at SGPC office today.

Giving information, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami alleged that the government of Punjab led by Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann has seriously hurt the Sikh sentiments by firing at the Gurdwara Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi, for which he was directly accountable for being the state Home Minister (HM). He said that the silence of the government and the administration on this matter raises questions, while the investigation report conducted on the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has revealed that the police targeted the Gurdwara Sahib unnecessarily.

Dhami alleged that attacks on Gurudwara on the police at the behest of the government cannot be tolerated. He said that Punjab CM and HM Bhagwant Mann can never be acquitted of the responsibility of Sultanpur Lodhi incident. The SGPC President said that the SGPC will not remain silent on this serious issue and will publicize CM Bhagwant Mann’s and police action at all levels among the Sangat. He said that he has discussed this with the SGPC executive office-bearers today, according to which it has been decided to convene a General House at Amritsar on February 1 at 12:00 noon. He said that the opinion of SGPC members will be taken during this special meeting, while before that, the investigation report and details of the evidence will be sent to all the members. He also informed that the investigation report and all the evidence proving the allegations against the police will be conveyed to the village level through the preachers.

Meanwhile, Dhami criticized the alleged anti-Sikh policy being followed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the release case of Prof Devinderpal Singh Bhullar. He said that Arvind Kejriwal’s government of Delhi earlier delayed the case file of Prof Bhullar and now during the latest meeting of Sentence Review Board, it has been rejected which proves that their agenda has never been positive towards Sikh issues. He said that now Kejriwal’s face has been completely exposed.

Talking about the anti-Sikh intention of the Punjab government, he said that the government did not approve the prosecution of Dera Sirsa chief, a convicted rapist and murderer Gurmeet Ram Rahim in sacrilege cases. He questioned the repeated parole to Gurmeet Ram Rahim by the Haryana government.
