Instead of forcibly stopping protesting farmers, government should solve their problems: SGPC

*Condemned Haryana government’s forcible action of police firing tear gas shells on farmers

Amritsar, February 13 -The Haryana government’s forcible action of police firing large number of tear gas shells on the farmers protesting for their demands and suppressing them by using force is against the democratic structure, about which the Centre government should think seriously.

Expressing this, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami in a statement issued here today said that agriculture is the backbone of the country and the demands of farmers should not be ignored. Condemning the use of police force to stop the farmers, he said that it is everyone’s right to demonstrate peacefully for their rightful demands in a democracy, so the government should immediately solve the problems of the farmers and not complicate the matter further by torturing them.

He said that the farmers of the country have been on the path of struggle with their demands for a long time but the governments have remained ignorant. Farmers of India are known as the breadwinner not only of the country but of the entire world and if these farmers are on the path of struggle today, then it is time for the governments to think. The SGPC President said that the government should focus on solving the farmers’ issues instead of forcibly stopping them from peaceful protest. He also strongly condemned the targeting of journalists in the action taken by the Haryana Police.
