International Women’s Day: Mahila Congress to organize ‘Mahilla Nyay Yatra’ in all districts

New  DelhI :  In order to highlight the plight of the rape victims and their families, the All India Mahilla Congress (AIMC) will organise ‘Mahilla Nyay Yatras’ across the country, tomorrow to mark the International Women’s Day that falls on March 8.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters,the president of the AIMC Alka Lamba also appealed to the President Draupadi Murmu and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to invite the rape victims and personally assure them of speedy justice.

Alka Lamba disclosed that after taking over the reins of the Mahilla Congress on January 10 this year, she has travelled across 20 states and met the rape victims. She alleged that most of the cases were reported from the BJP ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand just to name a few.

She alleged that while the accused were being patronised and protected by the ruling party, the victims were subjected to unlimited atrocities. She pointed out, that in Kanpur in BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh two rape victims and their father committed suicide after they failed to get justice.

The Mahila Congress president pointed out how the BJP leaders including legislators, MPs and ministers like Kuldeep Senger, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, Sandeep Singh and others were involved in heinous crimes against women and enjoyed the patronage of the party and its government.

Alka Lamba questioned the silence of the Women and Child Development Minister Smirti Irani, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women,  Rekha Sharma and the BJP Mahila Morcha president Vanathi Srinivasan  on such incidents.

Alka Lamba also asked as what happened to the fast track courts to decide such cases, particularly about the rapes of minors. She said, till the culprits do not have the fear of law, that they will get exemplary punishment like death sentence, such crimes cannot be stopped.

She disclosed that she will soon be meeting the Chief Ministers of the three Congress ruled states Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana for ensuring foolproof security and safety of women in those states to set an example for the rest of the country.
