Rahul Gandhi Slams Centre for Freezing Congress accounts, calls it criminal act

New Delhi : Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi today questioned the silence of the constitutional bodies like the courts and the Election Commission of India over the freezing of party’s bank accounts during General Elections.

“Idea of India being the largest democracy in the world is a lie”, said Gandhi in his fierce remarks at a press conference he addressed along with the party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi.

“Hate filled ‘Asura-Shakti’ has frozen our bank accounts to murder Indian democracy”, he remarked. He said, imagine what will happen if a family or a business account is frozen, the family will starve and business will cripple. “That is precisely what has been done with the Congress party, literally, two months before elections”, he said, while adding, the party is not even able to book advertisement slots.

Gandhi observed that even if the accounts are unfrozen now, the damage has already been done. He pointed out, the party cannot support its workers and candidates nor even can its leaders travel from one place to another.

Alleging that it has been orchestrated to cripple the party financially during elections, Rahul Gandhi said, it was being done at the behest of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister as nothing can happen in today’s India without their knowledge.

Gandhi said, while 20 percent of India votes for the Congress party, it is not in a position right now to spend even two rupees because of the frozen accounts. He said, this is a criminal act done on the Congress party to cripple it during the elections and neither any court nor the Election Commission was saying anything.

Gandhi asserted that it is the duty of all the institutions including the media to question it. “You are being robbed of your precious assets like the constitution and the democratic institutions”, he remarked, while wondering, nobody was saying anything.
