Chandigarh: Haryana Police is leading in the country constantly working to improve the cyber security system. Their efforts are putting Haryana on the national map for arresting cyber crime and protecting people’s hard earned money. During a survey Haryana was ranked 23rd in the country in September 2023 for cyber crime control, and due to their focused efforts, Haryana police achieved a significant improvement and reached the top spot by March 2024 and their success is being inspired by other states to implement similar strategies. Past scenario reveals that after taking charge in August 2023 as Director General of Police (DGP), Shatrujeet Kapur prioritized cyber crime control and formed a dedicated police team conducting pilot projects with banks to control cyber crimes in the state and freeze bank accounts involved in cyber frauds. with the assistance of O.P. Singh ADGP to control cyber crimes in the state.
Information reveals, in coordination with telecom companies, Haryana Police got freezed about two lakh fake bank accounts, blocked nearly 73,000 mobile sim associated with cyber crimes and amount worth Rs 73 crore was saved from the cyber cheats so far in past six months so far in the state, besides successfully apprehended 11 bank employees involved in facilitating fraudulent activities. DGP Kapur had meetings with senior bank officials and emphasized the importance of following RBI guidelines seriously to prevent cyber fraud stressing the importance of robust EKYC practices to prevent the opening of fake accounts used for illicit bank transfers. He warned of punitive measures against banks failing to safeguard their customers’ deposits, signaling a zero-tolerance approach towards negligence. It was informed in the meeting that currently about 31 percent of the cyber fraud amount is being frozen by the State Bank of India, and the Director General of Police congratulated the team of State Bank of India. All bank officials were also taken to visit the workstation of cyber helpline 1930 established at Haryana 112.
DGP Kapur said that common people are being made victims of cyber fraud by cyber criminals by adopting different methods every day to lure people into investing in different types of schemes in the name of investment, offering gift schemes, lotteries, attractive on-line work from home jobs and even by offering facebook friendship due to which people fall into their trap and become victims of cyber fraud. Similarly, by posing as officials of CBI, ED, and TRAI, cyber criminals are making people victims of cyber fraud by threatening them with arrest. DGP Kapur appealed to the general public not to fall for any kind of temptation and to do a thorough investigation of the facts, otherwise they may become victims of cyber fraud. In case of cyber fraud, people should contact helpline number 1930 as soon as possible. He said that with the help of misuse of ‘ Astra software technique issuing fake documents people are being robbed online. Hr disclosed that in district Nuh in Mewat 72935 mobile phone numbers have been cancelled in the past one year apart from 2 lakh 10 thousand bank accounts have been freezed.
