220 Bar Council members having fake degrees likely to face action

A writ petition filed has cast a shadow over the Bar Council of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh raising concerns about irregularities in its enrollment process, allegedly several individuals practicing legal advisers in the Bar Council obtained their licenses using fake academic degrees thus misusing legal practice. Information reveals that the names of about 220 members of the Bar Council are not only being removed from the enrollment list, but also they will not be permitted to do practice in future, in-spite of having a true degree in future. In an attempt to address concerns about fake degrees, the Bar Council has initiated a verification drive also and taken legal action against those advocates with forged LL.B degrees or mark sheets.

Talking to media persons Dr Vijender Ahlawat, Chairman of Bar Council Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh said that action has been taken by the Society on the direction of the Supreme Court of India. According to the information, the degrees of five advocates involved in practice at Rohtak on the basis of fake degrees were detected during investigation which would continue in other districts in Haryana state also. Information reveals, Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh Bar Council had constituted an administrative society under the Certificate and Place of Practice (Verification Rules- 2015) when investigation revealed that large number of registered advocates got themselves registered on the basis of fake degrees, notices were served to them and their licenses are being cancelled with immediate effect with the removal of their names from the enrolment list, registration of FIRs against them on the recommendation of Bar Council of India using these forged and fabricated documents violating Advocates Act, 1961 and they will not be allowed to undertake practice forever in future also.
