Ambala: Two dairy complex were developed outside the twin city Ambala to shift all milk dairies mushrooming inside the town in thickly populated residential areas as well as in the posh , when the district administration developed 204 plots at village Khatauli near Ambala Cantonment and 148 plots developed at village Kanwali near Ambala City to be allotted to the owners of the milk dairies at subsidized rates. According to information, most of the dairy owners shifted to these authorized dairy complexes in 2003 started shifting back their milk dairy units inside the town due to lack of amenities in the dairy complexes like the absence of free supply of water, irregular electric supply, no drainage system, lack of cleanliness arrangement causing heaps of garbage and cow dung scattered all around inside the complex, non availability of a doctor to take health care of the animals and no electric poles inside the complex as such the area remains dark and unsafe during night hours, as all such facilities were assured to be provided to the dairy owners prior to allotment of plots; as such they were compelled to shift back their milk dairies inside the town in past three to four years in the absence of assured amenities.
Information reveals, there are nearly 90 milk dairies left in Khatauli complex and 58 plots are lying vacant. Similarly, in the Kanwla dairy complex out of a total number of 72 plots nearly 40 plots are lying vacant. A recent survey reveals that more than 200 milk dairies are presently functioning in thickly populated residential areas and posh colonies at present spreading cow dung and heaps of garbage scattered all around in these areas.
According to information, large number of milk dairies are located in Sadar area Ambala Cantt and it was a dream project of the former Home & Health Minister Anil Vij, also MLA of the constituency to shift all milk dairies from thickly populated Sadar area to an authorized complex and for this project 21 acre land was procured by the Sadar Municipal Committee to shift all milk dairies from Sadar area to Brahman Majra in 2023 and a tender to hire a consultancy agency for this project was also floated and a layout for the same was prepared by an agency which was submitted for the approval, but no further action was taken by the district administration in this regard so far and the project is hanging on fire without action.
There were as many as 217 milk dairies functioning in the residential areas in Ambala City in 2001, and proposal to shift milk dairies was made in year 2003 and draw for the allotment of plots were held and in a short period all 148 plots at Khatauli were occupied by milk dairy owners who shifted there i8n due course of time, but finding neglects in the dairy complex as assured earlier by the government, in year 2009 most of the dairy owners started shifting their milk dairies back inside the town and only 90 milk dairies were left that too functioning half-heartedly by their owners. Similarly, in Sadar area Ambala Cantt where 21 acre land was approved for developing a dairy project but finding no action by the municipal committee Ambala Cantt, most of the milk dairies are presently located at Gwal Mandi, Rambag Road and Pakki Sarai area where one can find heaps of garbage scattered all around and drains filled with cow dung.
