While Himachal was trying to recover from calamity, BJP tried to uproot govt: Priyanka

HAMIRPUR :  Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi today lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the centre, reminding people here that how it tried to destabilise and uproot the government while the state was trying to recover from a devastating natural calamity.

She urged people to change the system where leaders take the voters for granted in the belief that they can seek votes in the name of religion without doing any work.

Addressing a largely attended public rally here today, Priyanka pointed out how the BJP government at the centre did not even provide the necessary relief to the state after the calamity. Instead it tried to steal the Congress MLAs to uproot a duly elected government.

While the Congress party and its leaders were busy arranging relief for the people, the BJP was busy in trying to steal the Congress legislators, she said while pointing out how the visuals of vehicles moving out in the dead of night were seen across the country with shock and disbelief.

Countering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charge that the Congress will steal their ‘mangalsutra’, Ms Gandhi pointed out, her mother’s ‘magalsutra’ was sacrificed for the country. She was referring to the brutal assassination of her father Rajiv Gandhi in a suicide bomb attack by LTTE militants.

The Congress general secretary wondered how the BJP could become the richest political party in the world in just ten years while the Congress could not become so in 55 years.

She said, while the BJP government at the centre could easily waive off Rs 16 lakh crores worth of loans of big billionaires, it did not waive off a single penny of farmers’ loans. She reaffirmed her party’s promise that the farmers’ loans will be waived off and they will also be getting legal guarantee for the MSP.

The Congress general secretary reiterated the guarantees of her party. These include Rs 8500 monthly cash assistance to the poor families, guaranteed one year apprenticeship for fresh graduates and diploma holders with an assured income of Rs one lakh for that period, 50 percent reservation for women in central government jobs, 5000 crore corpus fund for startups, filling up of 30 lakh central government vacancies and increasing the minimum daily wages to Rs 400 from 250.
