AAP and Congress secured equal vote share in Punjab, BJP doubles its share, SAD looses base

Chandigarh: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) and Congress party have secured almost equal vote share in the Lok Sabha election, the BJP is the biggest gainer and SAD is the major looser.

According to data released by the Punjab CEO, the AAP has got a vote share of 26.02 percent and Congress has got 26.30 percent share little higher than AAP. The AAP has won three seats and Congress has won seven seats with almost equal vote share.

The biggest gainer is BJP which got a share of 18.56 percent almost double of its best performance in Punjab so far. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is biggest looser with getting only 13.42 percent votes. This is first time after 20 years that SAD and BJP had contested the election separately. Their combined vote share is 31.98, highest of any political party in Punjab. Had they contested in pre-poll alliance, the scenario in the state would have been different.

Two Independents Amritpal Singh and Sarabjit Singh, both Sikh hardliners were able to secure 12.51 percent voters. They respectively have won Khadoor Sahib and Faridkot seats.

The BSP has got 2.49 percent votes almost half of its past performances. The CPI is polled 0.16 votes and CPIM got 0.04 percent votes. The communist party’s performance is significant in the light of PM Narender Modi’s allegations that urban Naxalites are ruling in Punjab. The statics have proved PM had lied just to defame Punjab and polarise the votes.
