Four including bank officer booked in Rs 96 lakh students scholarship fraud

Kaithal: Another case of fraud worth Rs 96 crore has been reported from Kaithal in which the Haryana Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) team after investigation exposed embezzlements in release of scholarship to the post-matric students belonging to scheduled caste and backward class family.iesA case has been registered by ACB against four persons including a senior officer of the State Bank of India branch then posted at Kaithal Hukam Chand Gupta. The other three identified as Naveen Kumar resident of Assandh, Dharamveer resident of village Sirta and Rajesh Kumar resident of Kaithal all running common education guidance centres (EGC).

ACB investigation revealed that during year 2014-15 and 2015-16 fake admissions of nearly 2000 students belonging to schedule caste and backward classes (SC/BC) mostly in ANM and GNS courses in educational institutes in Punjab and a few in Haryana were falsely shown in order to avail Haryana government’s scheme to release scholarship to such Post-matric students belonging to SC/BC categories. ACB investigations further revealed that amount between Rs 30000 and 35000 was released to each students by the government through Career Education Guidance Centres run by Naveen Kumar, Dharamveer and Rajesh Kumar who had charged amount between Rs 1000 and 3000 from each student towards consultation fee and arranging fake admission of the students in educational institutes allegedly with the assistance of bank officer opened such a large number of bank accounts without checking the documents properly.

ACB Inspector Mahinder Singh said that investigation in the case revealed thast 92 male and female students’ admissions were fakely shown thus suspecting a fraud for amount worth Rs 96 lakh. He said, it is surprising that the district welfare officer under what circumstances released such a huge amount worth lakhs of rupees towards scholarship to the students without verification of their documents and how fake admissions were given to the students by the educational institutes in Punjab and action in this regard is under process.
