Nearly 50% posts of teaching staff in government educational institutes in Haryana vacant

New Delhi : University Grant Commission (UGC) has expressed deep concern over nearly 50% posts of teaching staff in government schools and colleges in the state are lying vacant and has demanded detailed report as regard total number of posts and the teachers working in these educational institutes immediately raising a question why vacant posts in the educational institutes are not being filled up by the state education department.  

According to information, there are  10 state universities, 182 government colleges having a total number of 5416 teaching staff, which include more than 2000 lecturers working on contract basis in the colleges, as against 7986 vacancies and rest of 2570 posts for the teaching staff in colleges lying vacant since a long time. Apart from this, there are no principals in 80 colleges in the state. Punjab and Haryana High Court, too, had given six months time to fill up all vacancies for the posts of lecturers in government colleges on a writ moved in the court as regard acute shortage of teaching staff in government colleges. During year 2010, UGC had fixed minimum qualification NET and Phd for the post of Assistant Professor in colleges, which was also not implements by a large number of colleges in the state when a Single Bench in the High Court had directed to implement the same in 2020 and now the case is under trial in Double Bench in the High Court.

Districtwise requirement of teaching staff and shortage in government colleges has been identified as shortage of 30 lecturers out of total number of 260 posts in Ambala district, shortage of 182 lecturers out of total 556 posts in Bhiwani district, shortage of 115 lecturers out of total 369 posts in Faridabad district, shortage of 80 lecturers out of total number of 244 posts in Fatehabad district,shortage of 171 lecturers out of total numberrof 674 posts in Gurugram district, shortage of 116 lecturers out of total number of 425 posts in Jhajjar district, shortage of 159 lecturers out of total number of 513 posts in Jind district, shortage of 181 lecturers out of total number of 354 posts in Sirsa district, shortage of 90 lecturers out of total number of 256 posts in Sonepat district, shortage of 54 lecturers out of total number of 134 posts in Yamunanagar district, shortage of 42 lecturers out of total number of 97 posts in Charkhi Dadri district, shortage of 76 lecturers out of total number of 170 posts in Kaithal district.
