Former Jamaat-e-Islami members expected to contest in PDP strongholds in South Kashmir

Former members of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) are set to contest as Independent candidates across at least a dozen constituencies, with a particular focus on south Kashmir, according to a report in a section of Kashmir media..

These individuals, now operating under the banner of the newly-formed Justice and Development Front (JDF), will be challenging the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in areas traditionally considered its strongholds. Although the JDF could not officially register as a political party due to time constraints, it still plans to participate actively in the elections.

The reports quoting sources in the group indicated that they are likely to field candidates in constituencies including Pulwama, Rajpora, Tral, Bijbehara, Anantnag, Kulgam, Devsar, and Zainapora. These are areas where the PDP, already weakened by the departure of several key leaders since 2019, might face tough competition.
