Air India Group Launches Major MRO Facility in Bengaluru: A New Era for Indian Aviation

Bengaluru : In a significant move to bolster India’s aviation infrastructure, Air India Group has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru. The groundbreaking ceremony, held at Bangalore International Airport, marks the beginning of a project that underscores Air India’s commitment to advancing a self-reliant aviation ecosystem in India.

The new MRO facility, situated on a sprawling 35-acre site, will serve as a pivotal hub for maintaining the Air India group’s aircraft. As the airline continues to modernize its fleet and expand its global reach, this facility will play a crucial role in supporting its operations and ensuring top-notch service standards.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner for Industrial Development & Director of the Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Karnataka; Mr. Chin Yau Seng, CEO of SIA Engineering Company; and Mr. Hari Marar, Managing Director and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL). The event was also attended by senior leaders from Air India and other key stakeholders.

This milestone follows the earlier signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Air India and the Government of Karnataka, which laid the foundation for the MRO facility. Additionally, Air India has partnered with SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) to jointly develop this significant infrastructure.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Air India, highlighted the importance of this development, stating, “India’s aviation sector is experiencing remarkable growth, and Air India is at the forefront of this transformation. The Bengaluru MRO facility arrives at a crucial time, enhancing our ability to maintain our fleet with the highest standards. This initiative is a major step towards achieving our vision of becoming a world-class airline.”
