Seven cows died, 4 seriously injured after hit by Swarna Jayanti Shatabdi train

Sonipat :  A major train accident was averted when a group of 11 cows, arrived on the rail track all of sudden, were hit by Swarna Jayanti Shatabdi train (no 12029) running at 120 km per hour speed between Delhi and Amritsar near the Sugar mill at Sonipat . However, the loco pilot of the train as well driver of another passenger train (no. 04178) running between Kurukshetra and Delhi crossing on the adjoining rail track applied emergency brakes immediately and both trains stopped, as a result seven cows were crushed and died on the rail track, whereas four animals were seriously injured in this mishap. However, all animals were removed from the rail track by the residents of the adjoining rural areas who arrived at the spot immediately and injured cows were rushed to the animal hospital.

On the information of loco pilots of Swarna Jayanti Express train both GRP and RPF teams arrived at the spot from Sonipat Railway Station and started investigations. A case was registered by RPF against the owner of animals identified as Rajasthan Dera near the area that left animals in open. The rail traffic on the UP and DOWN rail track remained blocked on the spot as well on route between Ambala and Delhi for about one and half hour which affected a large number of trains including Amritsar Swaran Jayanti, Pathankot Express , KDM Passenger train no. 224297, Malwa Express, Shri Shakti Express, New Delhi Shatabdi and Kalka Shatabdi trains which were stopped at various railway stations for a long time.
