Amritsar police busts trans-border narcotic cartel headed by foreign based Harbhej Jawed ; 3 held with 2.15 kg heroin

Amritsar, October 24 – In a major breakthrough against trans-border narcotic smuggling networks amidst the ongoing war against drugs, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested three drug smugglers after recovering 2.15 kg Heroin from their possession, said Commisioner of Police Gurpreet singh Bhullar here on Thursday.

Arrested accused persons have been identified as Jagroop Singh alias Jupa, a resident of Village Ranike, Jagjit Singh and Jashanpreet Singh, both residents of Village Rangarh, Gharinda Amritsar Rural.

Bhullar said that preliminary investigations have revealed that accused Jagroop Singh alias Jupa, Jagjit and Jashanpreet were directly in touch with Pakistan-based drug smuggler Kaali, who were using drones to transport drugs across the border.

The CP said that technical leads were developed in a professional investigation and an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act.

Sharing operation details, Bhullar said that team of PS Chheharta received a reliable input that Jagroop Singh alias Jupa, Jagjit Singh and Jashanpreet had retrieved a huge consignment of narcotics and they are going to deliver the same in Bye-Pass area of Chheharta.

Acting swiftly, Police teams from Police Station Chheharta Amritsar under the overall supervision of DCP City Amritsar Abhimanyu Rana IPS and ACP West Shivdarshan Singh, laid a trap and arrested the accused persons from the outskirts of Village Behalwar, Gharinda Amritsar Rural.

Probe is on to identify persons to whom the arrested persons were to deliver the drug consignment, he said.

 A case FIR No. 195, dated 24/10/2024 has been registered under section 21-C of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.

Investigations are ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages in this case, he added.
